My Favorite Products For Your 3-5 Year Olds

Published on 10 February 2023 at 14:09

So you have a preschooler on your hands and need something to keep them occupied while also helping their little brain develop properly. Kids this age are unstoppable balls of energy, but they are also very vigilant, constantly soaking up knowledge and learning new skills. Here are five of my favorite products for your preschooler (not sponsored)!

Play Couches

Okay yes, I’ll admit that the obsession with these couches is a little bit overboard, but they really are amazing for toddlers. I think couches like the Nugget start to fully work their magic when children are in this age group because they are more likely to be able to move the different pieces on their own. The four year old who I nanny does quiet time in his room. I watch him build forts and obstacle courses with the Nugget. These keep him entertained for extended periods of time and are great for building imagination and strengthening gross motor skills.

Board Games

This is an age where it’s important to promote sharing and interactive play. Board games are an awesome tool for this. Simple games that require minimal collaboration can be a good start for a child who struggles with cooperation or shyness. Alphabet Bingo is one of my favorites right now. It helps with letter recognition and is easy to explain to younger kids. While there are clear winners, which can be challenging with preschoolers, it is a quick game so there’s always time to play until each child gets bingo or to start another round.

Building Blocks

Blocks are fun at any age, but now your child’s imagination is really starting to develop. Open ended toys like this encourage creative thinking and expression. You can use Lego, Magna-Tiles or basic wooden blocks. Build cities and farms with your child or allow them to invent their own world in independent play.

Cooking Set

Cooking and baking with kids gets so much more fun at this age. Their motor skills are more refined, they understand instructions better and can take on more responsibility in the kitchen. Cooking sets like this one include child safe knives, which are awesome for practicing cutting and incorporating your child into meal prepping. A lot of these tools can also be used for sensory play. Bonus points for visual measuring cups that can help your child start to learn the basics of fractions!

Osmo Tablet Games

These games are the ultimate no-guilt screen time activity. They really get your child thinking and develop some vital skills including critical thinking, problem solving, shape composition and of course, creativity. The Preschool Starter Kit is perfect for this age. It comes with multiple games and all the accessories you need. Whether your child chooses to create their own sea creatures, help navigate a story or practice their counting, they’ll be having a lot of fun learning!
